[Machu Picchu] June, 2003: We flew to Lima on Continental Airlines, arriving late at night. We spent the next day in Lima and then flew to Cusco & a tour of the Sacred Valley. Cusco is in the Andies and at about 11,000 feet altitude.

From Cusco we took the train to Machu Picchu and stayed there two nights.

On the way back to Cusco, we stopped for a night at Ollantaytambo.

We then returned to Cusco (part 2) for two nights before our five day trip to Manu & Amazon Jungle, driving over the Andes in a 4x4 Volvo truck/bus.

After Manu we flew to Arequipa in southern Peru and did an overnight trip to Colca Canyon (parts are twice as deep as the Grand Canyon) to see the giant condors.

After returning to Arequipa, we caught an overnight bus to Nazca to see the famous lines and the mummies in the desert.

We started heading north to Lima by hiring a driver to take us through Ica to Pisco.

Finally after three weeks we returned to Lima and our flight home.
